Mental Health Awareness

DESIGN / BRANDING

This was a branding project where I developed a logo and posters to help bring awareness to mental health. Each of the posters would be used to evoke emotion to those that see them and show that people are suffering without the ability to speak out. The logo created was placed at the bottom of each poster so that there was a common name for people to become antiquated with whenever they saw the images. Where their mouth lays is a tear in the paper with the words that they are unable to say. These posters were designed to be placed in public areas so that a difference can be made. Due to the development of the brand allowed for a brochure and card designs to also be made.

When starting on the logo, I wanted to add awareness as the main driver, therefore that word was the largest and bold. Mental health was to be a cursive font to be associated with delicate and ever changing. The development of fonts and type location is shown to the left.

After determining the placement and font choice, I began to play with different colors to bring out what I believed to be calming and approachable based on the direction the brand was going in.

The final logo design is seen below. There is a delicate balance between light and dark colors, with the larger text being light to allow for a better sense of understanding and empathy. The bold letters in awareness brings to light the importance of the brand and what their core belief is at, bringing attention to the issues. Mental health remains in the foreground with thin cursive lettering to remain with the calm nature (matching the blue) while showing the changing flow that mental health can take.

I wanted to create a poster focused around text to be displayed outside of the company office. As shown to the right, it ended with the phrase "I'm Not Okay" with the word Not crossed out, to show that there is something wrong but the fear or inability to share out loud.

Continuing with my poster development, I began to photograph people and show the pain that they were experiencing internally. These, as shown to the right, represent the people that are suffering in silence. I placed the words that they wish could be said in the torn part where their mouth should be, representing how they are unspoken. Below are some mock-ups of these posters as they would be seen in public.

I designed the brochures based on the image that I had created for the brand, following the same color scheme and use of font. I wanted to not only give information about the brand, but also about mental health in general. These are designed to be handed out at events and at the company location for those who visit. The basic front and back of the brochure can be seen to the left.

Finally, I designed some company cards. These are for easy distribution outside of the company and scheduled events. I wanted to incorporate the main logo as well as the typography poster because they are important to the image and directly correlated.
